Final Details
Dear Twentyfour12 rider
Here are your event final details, we hope it covers everything you need to know...if not, don't be afraid to email us back any questions you may have.
Venue:
The Venue is Newnham Park, a private country estate in Plympton on the outskirts of Plymouth. It is a 1500 acre estate owned by the Cobbold Family for about the last 900 years and provides a great setting for this years event. For Sat Nav the venue postcode is PL7 5BN but this covers the whole of the estate so as you get within a mile of the event you need to look out for signs for the event. From the A38 take the Plympton turn off and then follow signs for Lee Moor or Newnham Industrial Estate, as you pass through the industrial estate you will then pick up signs for the event and also normal road signage for Newnham Park. It is about 2 miles from the A38. The Newnham Park estate lies about half a mile from Colebrook Village which has a Pub, Fish and Chop Shop and Londis about 200metres further away in Plympton is a Tesco express and then a little further to the main Co-Op supermarket and a range of shops in Plympton...all walkable or a short drive from the venue. The Newnham Park estate has an excellent map here, you need to follow that map to the showfield...not The Shooting Ground.

Format
For those new to this, this event is open to Solos, Pairs, Teams.  For Pairs and Teams it is essentially a relay race and all relays need to be performed in the transition area (this is the only area for hand over and riders handing over outside of this area are liable to penalties and possible disqualification). The 24 hour race and the 12 hour race begin together at midday on Saturday, it is an on bike start. At midnight on Saturday the 12 hour race will end (all riders will be able to finish the laps they are on as long as it was started before midnight) and the new Torchbearer 12 race will begin. At midday on Sunday the 24 hour and Torchbearer races will end (again all laps started before midday can be completed)

Course
Newnham offers a great range of tracks for this race and we are confident it will hold up well in the wet, both the main climbs are solid and most of the singletrack is well bedded in. We expect the final course to be just over 12k and we will post some more info on our facebook page this week. There will be 2 strava sections.

Camping
The site is well served by drinking water taps and there will be plenty of portaloos. The event showers will be available from Friday morning and will be on throughout the night on Saturday night. There is a separate camping area for solos and another quiet camping area where generators are not allowed. We also have around 1km of trackside camping available to allow the 12 hour riders to keep the 24 hour riders motivated after midnight.... The Newnham Estate have requested that all dogs be kept on a lead at all times, they also request that you do not light campfires and all barbeques are kept off the ground.

Who are you Racing?
Entry lists for all 3 categories can be found here  please tab down to look at lists for the three different categories. Prizes from our event sponsors will be awarded to top 3 in each of the 12 hour and 24 hour categories where there are 5 or more entrants and to the winner where there are less than 5 entrants, for 24 hour sub categories trophies will be awarded to the winning teams. Prize money will be awarded to the top 3 solo riders in the 24 hour category.

A final event tip from Keith Bontrager
For the night laps - Remember to top up your batteries at the last minute before you leave and maybe again at the venue, so you start with a full charge. If there is any doubt about their condition run them through a full cycle and time how long they stay on. (You might want to put a fan on an HID bulb if you do this indoors so they don't overheat). Finishing a lap in the dark is no fun at all. You can ask me how I know that. See you there! KB

Other stuff:
No you don't need a rear light.

We recommend a good front light and an additional helmet torch for back up and extra vision.

We would like everyone to attend the race briefing if possible.
No we cannot reserve you a camping space, but there is enough room for everybody.
No, there are no electric hook ups.
No, we dont have any space left in ANY categories.
We have a few surprises up our sleeves too but we can't really tell you about those...

So pack your bags, charge your lights and we'll see you there...

Organiser's Diary
For a while there things weren't looking good. Numbers were down a little (after the monsoon of 2012), the cowboys and indians wanted our date, the venue is having a tungsten mine take some of the land and it felt like change would be good....but we genuinely don't think there is a better venue and we convinced Newnham that the date really was important and that there were more quality trails out there. Bontrager have confirmed a 9th year of title sponsorship (has
